by Rabbi Avrohom Yosef Davis
Part of the ‘Metsudah Tanach Nev’im Series’ series.
Sefer Yehoshua begins the second of the three parts of the ‘Threefold Torah’ described in the Talmud. The Book of Yehoshua represents the bridge between the Chumash and the Books of the Prophets. In the Sefer, we learn of the conquest of Eretz Yisroel and its division among the twelve tribes of Yisroel. It is important that all our generations know that this conquest and divison of the Holy Land was the fulfillment of God’s promise to Avrohom, Yitzchak and Yaakov, that their descendents would inherit the land. It is equally as important that future generations know of the miracles the Almighty performed for Yehoshua and his generation. It is for these reasons that Sefer Yehoshua stands out among the other Sifrei Tanach, and why in our times it is so important that we read and study its contents.
