ShivaConnect.com is a complimentary service for Jewish mourners and those wishing to express their condolences at a time of loss.
After a year of intricate web design and programming, a mourner or caring friend can now create a Shiva Registry. It includes memorial service/funeral and shiva details (with interactive directions), mourners’ contact information, food notes, synagogue affiliations, and family charitable requests. A direct link to the personal Shiva Registry can conveniently be emailed to friends and family, both far and near.
With “just a click,” ShivaConnect.com users can learn funeral and shiva arrangements, send food and comforting gifts, find helpful resources, make charitable donations, post and read eulogies, send thoughtful messages to mourners and create an emailed Yahrzeit Reminder. Shiva Connect.com has educational articles that are of interest to Jews and non-Jews about shiva customs and traditions, visiting mourners, Jewish prayers, poems, preparing your home for sitting shiva, etc.
This unique website was developed by Sharon Rosen, who turned to the internet for help when her beloved Mother passed away. She searched for local funeral homes and websites to learn about sitting shiva. Emails were sent to friends thanking them for their support and to tell them of her mother’s passing. Another was sent with final arrangements information and one more with location, days, and times for sitting shiva. She found the internet to be the best way for her to quickly communicate, at such a difficult time.
Stress grew as the phone kept ringing with questions about food. Friends continued to call asking what was needed, when to send it and people from out of town called not knowing where to order from. An abundance of food was delivered, platters were taken back to delicatessens for overnight refrigeration and others were donated to a local charity.
Exhausted and overwhelmed by this experience, Sharon thought, “there must be a better way!” and conceived the idea of an all- inclusive online resource to conveniently provide information, assistance and coordination of the bereavement period.
ShivaConnect.com has begun to list a wide range of helpful resources locally and is starting to expand throughout the United States. Resources include: hospices, funeral homes, bereavement groups, Independent and assisted senior living facilities, nursing homes, geriatric care services, homeowner services, food pantries, legal assistance, financial and insurance consultants, thrift & consignment shops, synagogues, etc. Charitable organizations are included with a direct link for online memorial donations.
Sharon’s vision of creating a comprehensive website to help others is now a reality. is a tribute to her Mother, who always gave love and support to family and friends.
