Benjamin “Bibi” Netanyahu is the Prime Minister of Israel. He also acts as the Chairman of Likud Party, a Knesset Member, Israel Health Minister, the Pensioner Affairs Minister of Israel and Economic Strategy Minister of Israel.
Benjamin Netanyahu was born October 21, 1949, and is the first and only prime minister than is born in Israel. In 1967, Netanyahu joined the Israeli Defense Forces were he served as a commander in the elite Sayeret Matkal commando unit. He fought in the Yom Kippur War in 1973 and was promoted captain before being discharged. After concluding his military service Netanyahu returned to the US and received hid first degree in Architecture, then a second degree in Business Administration at M.I.T. He started to work for the Boston Consultant Group and at the same time engaged in propaganda activities in the US in behalf of Israel.
From 1984 to 1998 he served as the Israeli ambassador to the United Nations and member of the Likud Party. June 1996 to July 1999 Netanyahu served the country as Prime Minister. During Ariel Sharon’s government, Netanyahu served as the Foreign Minister 2002-2003 then Finance Minister 2003-2005. But left the Sharon’s wing after disagreement regarding the Gaza Disengagement Plan. Netanyahu retook the Likud leadership in December 2005 and in the 2006 elections Likud won only winning twelve seats. In August 2007 Netanyahu retained the Likud leadership by beating Moshe Feiglin.
In 2010, a British magazine New Stateman listed Benjamin Netanyahu at 11th in the list of 2010 World’s 50 Most Influential Figures.
